This year's First Step course for young Jewish leaders will take place in October. The training serves as preparation for Next Step and the SALT «Leadership» course.
First Step 2026
Place and date
Friday, 23rd September to Sunday, 25th October 2026 in Budapest. The arrival date is Thursday, 22 October 2026.
Content of the training programme
First Step is a national training programme for students and young adults as a precursor to Next Step. Participants are given the opportunity to develop their professional potential and acquire management and leadership skills. The programme also promotes intra-Jewish exchange and strengthens the social and professional networks of Jews in Switzerland.
The programme focuses on the topic «Jewish Leadership - Leadership styles of Jewish personalities from a historical perspective», as well as the training units «Communication» and «Presentation» of the SALT certificate «Leadership». The examinations for these two modules can be taken at the end of the training programme.
Graduates of First Step receive 3 ECTS credits from the University of Basel, which can be recognised. After completing the course, participants are unconditionally admitted to the next Next Step course.
Participants
First Step is aimed at students and young adults in training between the ages of 18 and 26.
Language
The course is held in German.
Costs
The course is free of charge for members of Jewish communities. The SIG also contributes CHF 100 towards the cost of travelling.
