The GRA is actively engaged in combating discrimination in Switzerland. It raises public awareness and implements projects in the fields of education, politics and law.
Since 1990, the GRA Foundation against Racism and Antisemitism has been committed to protecting people in Switzerland from racism and antisemitism. It was co-founded by Sigi Feigel, who played a key role in the introduction of the anti-racism criminal provision. As a non-profit organisation, the GRA is politically and religiously independent.
Documentation, analysis and educational work
A central part of the GRA’s work is the systematic recording of racist and xenophobic incidents. For more than three decades, it has maintained a chronicle of publicly known events and has thus made an important contribution to the assessment of social developments.
Together with the SIG, the GRA publishes the annual Report on Antisemitism for the German, Italian and Romansh language areas of Switzerland. Together with the Society for Minorities in Switzerland GMS, it also publishes the Discrimination Report. Both publications provide a well-founded basis for public debate and political assessment. In addition, the GRA and the GMS regularly award the Nanny and Erich Fischhof Prize for exceptional commitment against racism and antisemitism.
At the political level, the GRA advocates educational and security-policy measures to combat discrimination. It is also directly involved in educational work and provides tools to raise awareness of racism and antisemitism, including quote cards, glossary cards and a specially developed online tool.
Cooperation with the SIG
The SIG works closely with the GRA, particularly in connection with the Report on Antisemitism. Beyond that, both organisations are in regular contact regarding current developments and the fight against antisemitism.
