In view of the horrific terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel, a memorial service for the victims will be held at the Synagogue in Bern on 16 October 2023. Federal Councillor Albert Rösti will take part in the memorial service.
The terrorist attacks by Hamas a week ago on Simchat Torah were unprecedented and horrific. Over 1,200 people lost their lives in Israel. The terror squads invaded villages, towns, kibbutzim and a music festival. Their target was innocent civilians. Men, women, young people, children and the elderly were mistreated, executed and kidnapped. The Jewish community around the world and in Switzerland is horrified and deeply affected. Many have acquaintances, friends and family in Israel who have suffered and are directly affected by the consequences of the attacks. The Swiss government, the Federal Council, has condemned Hamas and its terrorist attacks in the strongest possible terms and shown solidarity and compassion with the Jewish community.
On 16 October 2023, the victims of terror will be commemorated in a memorial service of the Swiss Jewish community in the Synagogue in Bern. The memorial service has been organised by the Jewish Community of Bern in cooperation with SIG. Federal Councillor Albert Rösti will take part in the memorial service as a representative of the Swiss government.
